Partner Steven Berlin to Speak at Annual HRMA Legal Seminar

On Nov. 18, Gordon & Rees partner Steven M. Berlin will present at the annual Human Resources Management Association of Princeton Legal Seminar from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the New Jersey Hospital Association Conference Center, 760 Alexander Road, in Princeton, N.J.

In the discussion, titled “Hot Topics in Employment Law,” Berlin will discuss the challenges presented by changing laws, new judicial interpretations of existing laws, and evolving notions of acceptable conduct in the workplace, including: the latest on social media and the NLRB, including what the NLRB considers lawful and unlawful social media policies; employment-related decisions of note by the New Jersey courts and how they affect employers; New Jersey legislation and new laws, including “Ban the Box” and criminal background check guidance; and practical tips for HR professionals.

For more than 25 years, Berlin has devoted his practice to the representation of management in New York and New Jersey. He primarily focuses on defending employers in litigation involving wrongful discharge, harassment, discrimination, retaliation, wage-and-hour violations, restrictive covenant and whistleblowing.

Berlin also advises clients on compliance with federal, state and local fair employment and labor laws and drafts employment-related corporate documents such as restrictive covenants, employment agreements, policies and handbooks, and separation/severance agreements. He represents clients in federal and state courts in New York and New Jersey, administrative agencies, and the National Labor Relations Board as well as in mediation and arbitration.

He is a frequent speaker on labor and employment matters, including presentations for Lorman Education Services, the New York Bar Association, the New Jersey Institute of Continuing Legal Education and law firm-sponsored programs. Berlin has written articles published in the New York Law Journal and New Jersey Labor and Employment Law Quarterly. Additionally, he serves as a contributing author for the Matthew Bender Employment Litigation in New Jersey treatise and the New Jersey Super Lawyers since 2005.

Berlin has been recognized by New York Super Lawyers since 2011 and he was honored as one of the few attorneys in Super Lawyers’ history named to two separate lists in the same year. He also has a peer-review rating of AV Preeminent from Martindale-Hubbell.
