    John R. Joyce is a Partner in the Chicago office of Gordon & Rees and is a member of the Business Transactions practice group. Mr. Joyce concentrates his practice primarily in real estate transactions and assist his clients in solving complex real estate problems. He represents developers through acquisition, financing, construction and final disposition of development projects. He is very familiar with all aspects of the development process, including land use, environmental and tax issues. Mr. Joyce is also experienced in all types of real estate transactions, including acquisitions, sales, residential and commercial development, condominium conversions, zoning, leasing, loan documentation and loan workout.

  • Representative Experience

    Hospitality Projects: Mr. Joyce has represented a national developer with the acquisition of three (3) historic landmark office buildings for conversion into hotels, which included obtaining Historic Preservation Tax Credits. He’s also represented a developer in the acquisition, equity raise through a Private Placement Memorandum and acquisition/construction financing of a 248-acre lake front marina and resort.

    Nonprofit Low Income Housing: Mr. Joyce has represented a nonprofit developer in the acquisition of 40 single-family homes under a grant from HUD through the Neighborhood Stabilization Program as well as a nonprofit developer in several projects involving low-income housing tax credits for elderly housing.

    Commercial and Residential Development: Mr. Joyce has represented developers in the acquisition, financing, construction and leasing/sale of residential condominium and apartment projects in Chicago and other municipalities and villages as well as built-to-suit sites for a national fitness center and national grocery chain.
