    Keane E. Aures is Senior Counsel in the Hartford office of GRSM and is a member of the Construction and Environmental/Toxic Tort practice groups. He concentrates his practice in the area of construction law, and handles transactions, litigation, and surety and fidelity matters.

    Keane counsels clients on all construction-related contract drafting and negotiations. He has handled documents related to public and private projects for a broad range of clients, including colleges and universities, international manufacturing facilities, research and industry facilities, corporate offices, hospitals, municipalities, self-storage owners and developers, large-scale residential developers, and commercial developers. Keane has prepared contract agreements for a major renovation and construction projects throughout the United States and internationally, and has prepared contract documents and management agreements for self-storage facilities throughout Connecticut.

    When a dispute arises over a construction project, Keane represents owners, contractors, trade contractors, sureties, and suppliers in both state and federal litigation. He is also experienced in resolving disputes through alternative dispute resolution, including mediation and arbitration. Keane achieved a favorable settlement for a manufacturing client supplying products for the construction of a Miami art museum. He successfully defended a contractor against a subcontractor’s claims related to the construction of a big box retail store. For the same client, Keane also won a counterclaim, convincing the court that the opposing party was responsible for delays and liable for liquidated damages.

    Keane regularly does pro bono work. He has helped veterans with legal advice related to obtaining housing and benefits. He also has volunteered his legal services by representing non-profit organizations through drafting construction agreements and dealing with construction defect claims.
