Gordon & Rees Partner Deborah Smith Moderates Panel at ABA's Toxic Torts and Environmental Law Committee Spring Meeting

May 2013

Gordon & Rees partner Deborah Smith of San Francisco recently moderated the “Hot Topics in Asbestos Litigation” panel at the American Bar Association’s 22nd Annual Spring CLE Meeting for the Toxic Torts and Environmental Law Committee of the Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section.

During the discussion, the panel examined:

  • the “new asbestos” – erionite – and other exposures linked to mesothelioma;
  • developments in the science and law of household exposure;
  • recent developments affecting the “any exposure” theory of liability;
  • ongoing developments on the insurance side of litigation; and
  • other trends impacting the ongoing asbestos litigation docket.

Featuring pre-eminent attorneys from the plaintiff and defense bar, as well as leading corporate counsel from across the country, the meeting was held April 4-6 at the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa in Phoenix.

Smith has been selected to chair the committee’s 23rd Annual Spring CLE Meeting in 2014.

Smith is a member of Gordon & Rees’s Environmental/Toxic Tort and Tort & Product Liability Practice Groups.
