June 2021

Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani was featured in a recent American Bar Association article, “Demographics as Destiny: Making the case for law firm diversity and inclusion.” The article compiles and analyzes data from studies showing a direct correlation between profitability and the promotion of a diverse workplace in the legal field and across all industries.

The article further details challenges to meeting specific objectives like hiring and retaining women and diverse attorneys. In the article, Firmwide Managing Partner Dion Cominos shared, “Intentions are not enough. If we don’t put forth the effort, we are going to have the same patterns [of attrition] repeating themselves.”  He continued, that “we are working diligently towards a future where women and persons of color occupy a significant percentage of the highest ranks of our leadership, management and ownership within the organization.”

In order to accomplish these objectives, Gordon & Rees maintains both a full time Diversity Committee, a Women’s Initiative, and numerous affinity groups to support African Americans, LGBTQ, Hispanic/Latino, Asian American. and South Asian law firm members, all of which are designed to provide significant opportunities for mentoring, marketing, networking, support and professional advancement.

In addition, the firm has also implemented its Leadership Equality and Diversity (“LEAD”) Program as part of its ongoing commitment to recruit, retain, and promote diverse attorneys to the highest positions of management, leadership and ownership at the firm. The firm’s strategy has produced strong results in the areas of diversity and inclusion, particularly in firm leadership, where nearly half of Gordon & Rees’ offices are led by female and/or minority partners.  Further, Gordon & Rees has earned a 100% rating on the Corporate Equality Index for LGBTQ equality from 2016 to the present, is ranked No. 24 on the Women in Law Scorecard by the National Law Journal, and is among the top 25% of Am Law 100 firms on the American Lawyer Diversity Scorecard.

In addition, Gordon & Rees was recently recognized as the #2 law firm nationally based on total U.S. female diverse partners, and #8 on a percentage basis for total U.S. female diverse partners by the Women in Law Scorecard.  The firm looks forward to making further important and meaningful strides in the critical areas of diversity and inclusion which it has identified as cornerstone priorities of its strategic plan for several decades.
