    Allison Becker is the Managing Partner of the firm’s Raleigh office and Co-Chair of the national Health Care Practice Group. She focuses her practice on health care, professional liability defense, and state and federal appeals. 

    Allison handles matters in a variety of state, federal, and appellate courts, including adversary proceedings in bankruptcy court. She also frequently represents clients before regulatory and licensing boards. She has fifteen years of experience managing all aspects of litigation, including pre-suit negotiations, pleadings, discovery, depositions, motions practice, jury trials, and appeals.

    Allison has been recognized as one of the Best Lawyers in America for professional malpractice defense, by North Carolina Super Lawyers as a Rising Star in the area of medical malpractice defense, and by Business North Carolina Magazine as one of the Legal Elite in litigation and appellate practice. She has tried cases to verdict in both North Carolina and Virginia and argued before the North Carolina Supreme Court and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.

    Health Care

    Allison’s health care practice involves defending providers against all manner of claims—including claims of catastrophic injury, birth injury, constitutional violations, and wrongful death—in all stages of litigation, from pre-suit evaluation to appeals. In addition, Allison represents her health care clients before medical, dental, nursing, and mental health licensing boards. Allison also has extensive experience defending correctional medical, dental, and mental health providers across the country against Section 1983 deliberate indifference claims, and is frequently invited to speak and publish on this topic. Allison also counsels her health care clients on a variety of legal issues, in an effort to proactively avoid litigation when possible. 

    Professional Liability Defense

    Allison routinely defends malpractice claims against professionals in a wide range of industries, including health care providers, veterinarians, accountants, architects, engineers, attorneys, insurance agents and brokers, directors and officers, and real estate agents. In addition, Allison also advises and represents her clients in connection with professional licensing board investigations and inquiries.

    Appellate

    Allison handles appellate matters—including briefing and oral argument—for a wide variety of clients before the North Carolina Court of Appeals, the North Carolina Supreme Court, and Federal Courts of Appeals across the country. She also provides appellate advice to outside defense counsel prior to and during trial in order to identify potential appellate concerns and to ensure that all issues are properly preserved for appeal.
