    Cara Sgobba is an Associate in the Boston office of GRSM. As a construction Associate, Cara focuses primarily on the representation of contractors, property owners, developers, and design professionals during all phases of construction transactions, disputes, or litigation. In the course of her practice, Cara prides herself on providing candid communication and thoughtful case strategy to each of her clients.

    Prior to joining GRSM, Cara handled a lively litigation practice at a small Boston-based law firm representing clients in diverse practice areas including construction, business and contract litigation, real estate, zoning and land use, condominium, foreclosure, domestic relations, and commercial and residential landlord-tenant matters.

    Cara has represented clients in a variety of jurisdictions including in Massachusetts Federal and State District Courts, Superior Court, Land Court, Probate and Family Court, Housing Court and before various administrative agencies including the Boston Zoning Board of Appeals and the Massachusetts Commission against Discrimination.

    Representative Experience

    • Negotiating a favorable financial settlement for condominium unit owner plagued by loss of use and property damage to the owners’ condominium unit caused by ineffective maintenance practices of the Condominium’s Board of Trustees.
    • Obtaining an order for real property attachment and subsequent case settlement for more than double base damages for small scale property developer in a breach of contract and consumer protection dispute against contractor.
    • Successfully negotiating a commercial lease for local restaurant chain in the Boston area.
    • Obtaining an effective trial judgment, to order the division of undesignated material assets for a former spouse, post-divorce, plus an award of attorney’s fees and costs.  
    • Negotiating favorable buy-out or third-party sale agreements for estranged co-owners of real property in the course of partition actions.
    • Successfully defending a private lender in emergency proceedings to enjoin a commercial foreclosure sale.
    • Obtaining a case settlement agreement for about 100% of the judgment amount sought in contempt proceedings to enforce complex asset division provisions of a marital separation agreement.
