Justin D. Lewis

Justin D. Lewis is a Partner in the San Diego office. He focuses his practice on class action defense, commercial litigation, and unfair competition. Justin wields significant experience defending manufacturers of consumer products against claims that their products exhibit chemical or electrical defects. Defending a preeminent manufacturer of consumer products in a recent class action, he defeated a top plaintiffs’ firm and a celebrity attorney on the first day of trial, securing decertification and dismissal before the first witness took the stand. Justin also holds significant appellate and international arbitration experience.

A former college instructor of public speaking, he is a cum laude graduate of the University of Illinois College of Law, where he was cited for his writing talent and recognized as the most outstanding oral advocate in the school’s leading competition. Justin also received his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois, earning highest honors.

• Obtained an appellate class action defense ruling against a claim that consumers could not dispense the full labeled quantity of thick, viscous makeup from the pump bottles in which L’Oréal packaged multiple lines of cosmetics. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit ruled that the plaintiffs’ case violates the federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act ("FDCA"), which expressly preempts any state law requirements that differ from federal law. For more information, click here.
• Obtained a complete class action dismissal of two-year pending case for L’Oréal against a claim of deceptively marketing a black women’s hair relaxer as scalp-protecting but instead causing burns and hair loss. For more information, click here.

• Justin has been commended as an effective public speaker. At the University of Illinois, he taught an undergraduate course on principles of oratory for the University of Illinois Department of Speech Communication.
