Nicholas J. Riley

Nicholas Riley is a Senior Counsel in the Chicago office of GRSM. He is a member of the Health Care and Commercial Litigation practice groups. He focuses his practice on the defense of medical professionals, corporations and other insured individuals and corporations.

Prior to joining GRSM, Nicholas worked as an associate at a civil defense firm where he represented medical professionals and practice groups in medical malpractice matters, insured individuals and corporations in personal injury matters, and insured clients in general liability litigations matters. Prior to that, he was managing attorney of the Illinois offices at a multi-state collection firm where he represented national banks, debt purchasers and other lenders.

Representative Experience

• Assisted in the successful defense of an ophthalmologist and ophthalmology corporation in a medical malpractice claim for $5.5 million. The jury verdict was based on a denial that plaintiff failed to receive informed consent for surgical procedures and a denial the physician’s actions deviated from the relevant standard of care or proximately caused claimed injuries.
• Obtained successful award and subsequent judgment on award on behalf of defendant motorist at arbitration.
• Acquired successful bench verdicts on behalf of national banks, debt purchasers, and other lenders throughout the state of Illinois. Obtained dismissal of counterclaim alleging violations of the ECOA and FDCPA on behalf of auto lender.
