Gordon & Rees Boston associate and president of the South Asian Bar Association of Greater Boston (SABA GB), Saraa Basaria, delivered opening remarks and presented awards for "Board Member of the Year" at the 12th Annual Gala & Awards Dinner on November 30, 2016 at the Taj Hotel in Boston, MA. The evening included a networking and cocktail reception and Indian dinner in the Grand Ballroom while listening to a powerful speech by keynote speaker Deepa Iyer from the Center for Social Inclusion.
Setting the record for number of guests and sponsorships, this year's gala celebrated the many accomplishments of SABA GB's members within the Greater Boston legal community. Awards were given to both members and supporting organizations. Basaria honored current Board Members and Mentorship Committee Co-chairs, Manmeet K. Desai and Rashima Shukla, with the Annapoorni R. Sankaran Award for Board Member of the Year. Day Pitney LLP was presented with the General Member Award for its outstanding contribution and collaboration with SABA GB.
Boston College Law 2L, Vaishali Goyal, spoke about her experience as a SABA GB Public Interest Fellow and thanked SABA GB for its support and WilmerHale for its generous sponsorship. Members of the 2016 Executive Committee, including Basaria, Vice President Priya Amar, Secretary Manleen Singh, and Treasurer Thanos Matthai were recognized for their leadership efforts. The evening capped off with some high-energy entertainment as MIT Bhangra performed a spectacular bhangra dance routine.
