Colorado Deputy Securities Commissioner Lillian Alves Joins Gordon & Rees Denver Office

Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani welcomes attorney Lillian Alves to the securities practice group in the firm’s Denver office. Alves was formerly the Deputy Securities Commissioner for the Colorado Divisions of Securities. Alves joins partner Tamara Seelman and associate Adrien Anderson as of counsel in the securities practice group in the firm's Denver office. 

Alves joins Gordon & Rees with extensive experience as a state securities regulator. She is the former Deputy Securities Commissioner for the Colorado Division of Securities. During her time as a deputy securities commissioner, she oversaw investigations and litigation matters pursuant to the Colorado Securities Act, including fraud, the sale of unregistered securities, sales of securities by unlicensed individuals, improper custody of client funds, and books and records violations. She also drafted and interpreted broker dealer and investment adviser regulation. Alves’ securities practice will include complex commercial litigation involving private and public companies, financial services companies, regulatory investigations and disputes, as well as customer disputes. Alves also served as Special Assistant United States Attorney in the District of Colorado. During her time as a federal prosecutor, she handled a number of white collar investigations and litigation, including trials, involving financial fraud.   

The Denver office’s Securities practice group has extensive national experience advising public and private companies, financial services companies, broker-dealers, registered investment advisors, and officers, directors, and other professionals in state and federal investigations, lawsuits, and arbitrations asserting sales practice violations and violations of federal and state securities laws. The attorneys have been involved in complex matters including EB-5 industry investigations; shareholder derivative actions; SEC, FINRA, and state agency inquiries, investigations and enforcement actions; and customer arbitrations in FINRA and AAA nationwide. The practice group also has market knowledge in growing areas of digital currency, blockchain, and coin offerings.

Tamara Seelman is co-chair of Gordon & Rees Securities Litigation practice group. She focuses on complex commercial litigation with an emphasis on securities litigation. She has been recognized by Best Lawyers in America® for securities litigation (2018). She advises public and private companies, broker dealers, registered investment advisors, and other financial services entities in state and federal courts, and in SEC, FINRA and other government investigations, as well as FINRA arbitrations. Seelman is also an adjunct professor at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law where she teaches a course on securities law. She attended the University of Denver Sturm College of law and holds a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Denver Daniels College of Business.

Adrien Anderson focuses her practice on broker dealer and investment adviser defense, regulatory investigations, and has worked on matters of suitability, fraud, breach of fiduciary duty, and breach of contract in FINRA and AAA arbitrations as well as in state and federal courts. Anderson attended the University of Denver Sturm College of law and received her Masters in Business Administration from the University of Denver Daniels College of Business. Anderson also is a guest lecturer on securities at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law.
