On July 24, 2019 MassDEP issued a Severe Weather Emergency Declaration to facilitate speedy recovery in the Towns of Harwich and Yarmouth from damage in wetlands caused by the tornado and severe thunderstorm that occurred on July 23. Dennis and Chatham were added on July 29. Issued under the Wetlands Protection Act and regulations, the declaration suspends wetlands filing requirements for certain storm damage repair and cleanup work completed within 30 days. A description of the work must be submitted to the local Conservation Commission and MassDEP regional office by August 24, 2019.
