Membership is extended by invitation only to experienced trial lawyers who have mastered the art of advocacy and whose professional careers have been marked by the highest standards of ethical conduct, professionalism, civility and collegiality.

The American Board of Trial Advocates is a national association of more than 6,000 experienced trial lawyers and judges dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the civil jury trial right provided by the Seventh Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Since 1958, ABOTA has worked to uphold the jury system and to elevate the standards of integrity, civility and professionalism in the legal profession. Its aim is to aid in further education and training of trial lawyers and to provide a forum for discussion through which trial lawyers can have an active voice. It seeks attorneys who display skill, civility and integrity, to help younger attorneys achieve, and to educate the public about the vital importance of the right to a trial by jury.

"My uncle, Don Shultz, who inspired me to be a litigator and trial lawyer, was the President of ABOTA in 1993," shared Chad Shultz. "He introduced me to ABOTA then, and it is an honor to be invited now to join this prestigious national organization. I can’t wait to share this news with him.  I look forward to contributing to the Georgia chapter, which was just awarded the 2021 small ABOTA Chapter of the Year."
