Gordon & Rees Adds Preeminent Lawyer Gretchen Harris Sperry as a Co-Chair of Appellate Practice Group

March 2023

Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani, the nation's first and only law firm with offices in all 50 states, welcomes Gretchen Harris Sperry as a Co-Chair of the Appellate Practice Group and a Partner in the firm's Chicago office. She will serve as a member of the Appellate, Commercial Litigation, Tort & Product Liability, and Government Regulatory & Administrative Law practice groups.

Sperry has represented clients in complex commercial litigation, constitutional litigation, high-exposure catastrophic injury cases, labor and employment matters, and white-collar criminal defense matters. In addition to her appellate and litigation practices, she is widely known for her skills in handling the sensitive and unique legal issues that arise at the intersection of law, politics, and government. She frequently represents government agencies and elected officials in constitutional litigation as a court-appointed Special Assistant State's Attorney and also represents private sector clients before various governmental, legislative, and regulatory agencies, counseling them on pending legislation and regulatory compliance matters.

“We are thrilled to add Gretchen to our office here in Chicago. She will certainly be an asset to our appellate practice group, as well as an excellent contributor to our trial teams. Gretchen brings a wealth of experience and a broad range of specialties to our firm, and adds to our deep bench of top practitioners,” said Stephanie Jones, co-managing partner of the firm’s Chicago office.

Sperry was appointed by the Illinois Supreme Court to serve as a member of the Character and Fitness Committee of the Illinois Board of Admissions to the Bar. She also serves as the Secretary of the ABA Council of Appellate Lawyers and is a Past President of the Illinois Appellate Lawyers Association. Sperry has been recognized as a Leading Lawyer in Civil Appeals and has been on the Super Lawyers list by Illinois Super Lawyers magazine since 2020.

She is admitted to practice in Illinois, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, and the U.S. Supreme Court, and has practiced in many other jurisdictions pro hac vice. Sperry earned her law degree from Loyola University Chicago School of Law and her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Gordon & Rees’s appellate lawyers have extensive experience in state and federal courts of appeal throughout the country, including the U.S. Supreme Court. The team includes numerous attorneys who served as law clerks and judicial externs at appellate courts throughout the U.S. and provides capabilities that many appellate-only firms do not, such as deep knowledge of the substantive areas in which the firm practices.
