New York Partner Virginia Trunkes, as Co-President of the Judges & Lawyers Breast Cancer Alert ("JALBCA"), will welcome attendees to JALBCA’s 2023 Annual Awards Dinner in New York City on May 8 at 6 p.m. Ms. Trunkes will thank outgoing Co-President Hon. Marguerite Grays for her contributions and welcome incoming Co-President Hon. Judy Kim, as well as new Board members and officers. She will present JALBCA’s annual Volunteer Award to long-time Board member Sandra Lespinasse, Esq.
Focusing on the intersection of the law and breast cancer, JALBCA leverages the legal community’s strength, passion, resources and expertise to promote awareness, early detection, treatment and support for all those affected by breast cancer. Last year it awarded $754,000 in grants to nine deserving non-profit organizations that support JALBCA’s mission to educate the breast cancer community at large about critical medical, legal and personal issues around breast cancer and to support the funding of major, well-integrated legal and legally-related counseling support programs, as well as state-of-the-art early detection initiatives. In simpler terms, JALBCA brings hope and facilitates legal assistance to women and families in marginalized communities and breast cancer detection for those with little or no medical insurance. JALBCA also holds a monthly support group for those in crisis following a diagnosis of breast cancer.
Ms. Trunkes represents property owners, as well as construction managers, contractors and subcontractors, in negotiating their construction and design services contracts and adjacent-owner access license agreements. With more than two decades of experience handling complex business litigation and appellate practice, she counsels her clients to appreciate, navigate and overcome the obstacles inherent in construction projects and their impact on the parties’ legal positions.
