GRSM Again Ranked Most Active in Contract Litigation in Lex Machina 2024 Report

August 2024

Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani was again named the most active law firm in the United States in contract litigation in Lex Machina's Contracts: Commercial Litigation 2024 Report.

According to the report, GRSM represented defendants in more commercial cases than any other firm between 2021 and 2023, appearing in nearly 400 commercial litigations in the past three years. Lex Machina ranks the most active law firms by total appearances in cases filed from 2021 to 2023 in more than 15 practice areas.

Peter G. Siachos, Managing Partner of the firm's Charleston office and Co-Chair of the firm's Commercial Litigation and Class Action practice groups shared his thoughts with Law360 as to why the number of commercial litigation cases filed in the last year jumped by 15 percent. According to Siachos, the rise in cases has not been limited to any specific business or industry. "We've seen it in all different kinds of cases. We've seen it in the mass tort cases. We've seen it in the product liability cases. We've seen it in business-to-business cases. We've seen it in intellectual property cases."

The article also states that while the number of litigations has increased, verdict amounts have also risen. "The desensitization to what a dollar amount means and the fact that a million dollars isn't what it used to be has really affected commercial litigation and how we look at gauging what a case is worth and what can be an expected outcome in a case," said Siachos. He concluded that commercial litigation is likely to continue growing, both in terms of the number of claims and the size of verdicts. "Everything is creating more litigation," Siachos added. "Our clients are needing us now more than ever.”

He credits GRSM's success in handling more contract cases than any other firm to the firm's ability to offer service to clients in all 50 states and the firm's robust Commercial Litigation practice group, with more than 700 attorneys equipped to handle multi-party and complex claims in every substantive area of commercial law.
