    Joseph Monahan is Senior Counsel in the Philadelphia office of GRSM. He is a member of the Insurance practice group.

    Joseph focuses his practice on commercial litigation, insurance coverage and bad faith matters, contract disputes, business torts, class actions, and real estate disputes. He has represented insurers, reinsurers, insurance brokers, real estate developers, medical device manufacturers, a motion picture studio, major universities and professional practices, among others, in a wide range of matters, including through government investigations, trials, arbitrations, mediation and appellate proceedings.

  • Representative Experience
    • Successful representation of multiple insurance carriers accused of bad faith in both the first party and third party context;
    • Representation of bank and bank holding company in ongoing consumer class actions alleging violations of RESPA and the Sherman Act; 
    • Successful representation of university in major Clery Act and Title IX federal investigations;
    • After extensive motion practice in multiple courts, reached favorable resolution of dispute concerning alleged fraud, RICO and ERISA violations with respect to the financing of a major entertainment facility; and  
    • Successfully represented medical device manufacturer accused of design patent infringement in Federal Circuit appeal of denial of summary judgment
