Gordon & Rees Partner Michael A. Laurenson Selected to the American Board of Trial Advocates

Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani is pleased to announce that partner Michael A. "Mike" Laurenson has been elected to membership in the prestigious American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA). This membership is by invitation only and based on a trial lawyer’s skill, civility and integrity. Only attorneys with significant civil trial experience are selected for membership.

The American Board of Trial Advocates is a national association of more than 6,000 experienced trial lawyers and judges dedicated to the preservation and promotion of the civil jury trial right provided by the Seventh Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Since 1958, ABOTA has worked to uphold the jury system and to elevate the standards of integrity, civility and professionalism in the legal profession. Its aim is to aid in further education and training of trial lawyers and to provide a forum for discussion through which trial lawyers can have an active voice. It seeks attorneys who display skill, civility and integrity, to help younger attorneys achieve educate the public about the vital importance of the Seventh Amendment.

Mr. Laurenson is a member of the firm's National Trial Practice Group and Employment Practice Group and works out of the Oakland office. He was selected by the Daily Journal as one of the Top 75 Labor & Employment attorneys in California. The Daily Journal also selected unanimous defense verdicts that Mr. Laurenson received in 2014 and 2015 as Top 10 Defense Verdicts in California for those years.

Mr. Laurenson represents public and private entities in employment matters in federal and state court, with a focus on wrongful termination, retaliation and discrimination claims. He also advises employers on compliance with state and federal employment laws. 

Prior to attending law school, Mr. Laurenson served for five years in the United States Navy. He was Weapons Officer for two deployments in support of the Persian Gulf War, and also served as ship's Legal Officer, providing counsel to captain and crew on both military and civilian matters.
