September 2023

Chicago Senior Counsel Patrick F. Sullivan and Associate Richard E. Daniels authored "Is Liability One Click Away? Developing Trends in Cyber Liability Claims for Legal Professionals" in Professional Liability Defense Quarterly's Third Quarter 2023 issue, published by the Professional Liability Defense Federation.

This article covers cyber security risks for legal professionals given the private client information that they possess, which can include sensitive personal or biometric data on a client's employees and customers, proprietary and trade secret information, and confidential, non-public legal work. It also discusses the types of liability that law firms are likely to face following a breach of client information and how individuals and firms can prevent cyberattacks.

Mr. Sullivan has extensive experience litigating the defense of environmental, products, professional, and commercial liability claims, including the defense of medical device and pharmaceutical manufacturers. He has represented professionals and corporations in every stage of litigation in state and federal courts across the United States, whether at trial, appeal, or arbitration.

Mr. Daniels has successfully defended claims involving contract disputes, copyright issues, trucking and transportation lawsuits, and general tort actions. He also has experience defending product liability lawsuits, catastrophic injury cases, and actions brought under the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, and the Illinois Right of Publicity Act.
