Hartford Of Counsel Regen O’Malley Receives Connecticut Bar Association’s Pro Bono Award

April 2023

Gordon Rees Scully Mansukhani Of Counsel Regen O'Malley will be one of four attorneys to receive The Honorable Anthony V. DeMayo Pro Bono Award at the Connecticut Bar Association's annual awards celebration on Wednesday, May 3, 2023.

She was nominated for this award through her pro bono legal work for the Connecticut Veterans Legal Center ("CVLC"), whose mission is to help veterans recovering from homelessness and mental illness overcome legal barriers to housing, healthcare, and income.

Ms. O'Malley is Of Counsel in the Hartford office of Gordon & Rees. She concentrates her practice on insurance coverage as well as defense of insurers and other companies against both contractual and extra-contractual claims. She has practiced in both state and federal courts since 2003.

For over four years, Ms. O’Malley has provided direct pro bono representation to veterans through the CVLC, working on behalf of low-income veterans facing immediate homelessness through eviction. In one case, Ms. O'Malley went so far as to ensure access to transportation and storage for a disabled veteran who was preparing to move before an eviction.

This award is named in honor of The Honorable Anthony V. DeMayo, who tirelessly fought for fundamental fairness and championed the legal rights of the poor and accused. The award recognizes Connecticut Bar Association members who are not salaried employees of a legal aid or similar nonprofit organization. The recipients are selected based on their demonstrated dedication to the provision of legal services without expectation of payment to those in need.

The Connecticut Bar Association's annual awards dinner, "Celebrate with the Stars," will be held on Wednesday, May 3 in Plantsville, Connecticut. The dinner will honor this year's awardees, attorneys selected for their distinguished achievements, and celebrate select attorneys' 50th anniversary of their admission to practice in Connecticut.
